Description: Cat Island NWR field trip will be by canoe. Participants will be required to paddle. All canoes, life jackets and paddles will be provided. Approximate time in a canoe is 2 hours. The tree cannot be accessed during canoe trip.

Cat Island Nationa Wildlife Refuge was established to conserve, restore, and manage native forested wetland habitats for migratory birds, aquatic resources, and endangered and threatened plants and animals. The NWR is along the southern-most unleveed portion of the Mississippi Rive and floods in most years. The Mississippi River is a major bird migration cooridor and the refuge is located within an area of high importance for neotropical migratory birds, including the sweallowtailed kite, which is a species of special concern.
