The 2008 Welcome Reception will feature Danny Heitman, author and columnist for the Baton Rouge Advocate. Mr. Heitman’s new book, “A Summer of Birds: John James Audubon at Oakley House,” is being released in April, 2008 and will be available for purchase and signing at the reception. Mr. Heitman’s program will cover what he learned about Audubon during his stay at Oakley and what a pivotal time this period was in the artist’s career. The welcome reception will take place in the visitors’ center at Audubon State Historic Site. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with Mr. Heitman’s program taking place at 6:30 pm, followed at 7:30 by a wine and cheese reception and candlelight tour of Oakley House. Due to limited seating, advance reservations will be required.
